Balloon sculpting is my walk-about act — the one that keeps the queue moving and the kids busy between activities. I move around the venue with a bandolier of balloons and turn out swords, flowers, puppies, parrots, dinosaurs, and the ever-popular "whatever the kid just asked for that I've never made before" — sometimes successfully, always entertainingly.
It works beautifully on its own and even better paired with Dora's face painting through Dazzling Faces — while she paints one queue, I sculpt the other, and no child stands still long enough to get bored.
I sculpt comfortably for up to 12 children per hour, depending on the complexity of what they're asking for. Simple swords and dogs go quickly; an articulated dinosaur takes a few extra minutes.
Indoor or outdoor — the balloons cope with light wind but won't survive a proper Highveld thunderstorm, so I keep an eye on the weather and we'll adjust together if needed.
